Team Success

Students, parents, family and friends participated in a Sponsored Walk-Sunday 4th October 2009

We are trying very hard to bring the top international instructors to Luton to assist in the development of all the Karate students in Luton.  Our aim as ever is for us to assist in the personal development of JKL students and give them the opportunity to try and compete for Great Britain.  To achieve this goal we needed to continue raise funds and it was decided that our first fundraising drive was going to be a sponsored walk.

On Sunday the 4th October JKL students, parents, family and friends participated in a sponsored walk over Stopsley Common.  There were three distances that students choose to walk – 3km, 5km or 10km. Some students came in fancy dress, well-done to Kyle Hughes, Daniel Sigee, Aedan Edwards and Ronnie Edwards, who all looked wonderful in their costume walking around the field.

The turn out was incredible, everyone showed commitment, and the day ended up with a relaxing game of football and a picnic to celebrate our achievement.

A very special thank- you goes to Peter Higgins and Andy Mills who calculated and organised the whole event. Also thank you to the stewards who kept us all safe during the walk– Linda Croke, Tony Atkinson (who surprisingly kept awake), Darren Pepper, Martyn Parkins, Patricia Mills and Linda Birchall.

JKL Sponsored Walk raised £1022.10

Well done to all!!!

Grading Mania

7 students travelled to Wales on the 19th & 20th September 2009 and trained with Shihan Isaka over the two days - 8th Dan KWF.

Gradings and qualifications took place on Sunday morning. Instructors led by example, Sensei Sabrina being the first on the floor taking KWF Godan. She showed technical and skilful throughout her grading doing Chinte and Empi kata’s and kumite with two senior male instructors.

Jacob and Charlie were up next and once again their technical ability and control shone put during the whole grading given them success and gaining KWF Nidan.

Girl Power was the order of the day with five young ladies taking their shodans and passing first time. Ryan Parkins was the youngest in the group being only 11 years of age, shone out technically and spiritually, being another good example of a junior karateka. Steven Blackburn although unsuccessful on the day, also performed to his best and showed good spirit.

Sensei Fred followed toping up his 6th Dan with three qualifications under his belt, performing Gojushiho Sho and Empi kata’s and answering technical questions
