Liam Mills Young Sportsman of the Year Award - (21st Mar)

Luton’s Sports Awards 2005 took place on 21st March 2006, at Vauxhall Riverside Suite.

Liam Mills age 11 took a excellent and well deserved 2nd place in the Young Sportsman of the Year category.

Since joining Luton JKA Liam has never kept his feet still. His enthusiasm not only in training, but assisting in teaching the lower grades passing on his knowledge, has astounded his instructors.

Liam is the youngest member of the dojo to receive his Shodan in September 2005 under Sensei Sidoli and Sensei Lewis, which is registered in Japan under KWF Yahara.

Liam has always competed nationally and internationally, his level of expertise should carry him onto the KWF GB squad ready for Japan March 2007.

Sensei Daniels and Sensei Collins as well as all the students in the dojo are very proud of Liam’s achievements. WELL DONE LIAM!!!!!!

Bournemouth Competition - (5th Mar)

Karate students from JKA Luton were once again in action at the annual Legends Open Championships held in Bournemouth on 5th March.

The 29 strong squad began the day with an early morning run from their hotel to the seafront where Technical Director, Sensei Fred Daniels, put the team through a pre-breakfast training session on the beach, much to the amazement of passers-by.

Junior student, Eammon Devane (15), wore the biggest smile at the end of the day by winning a gold and silver trophy. Second places were also awarded to Louis Edwards, Emir Pleho, Jacob Croke and José Capo-Camps.

After a gruelling marathon of 32 different divisions, the squads tremendous efforts resulted in a trophy haul of 16 medals for the Putteridge based club (see below for full results).

Chief Instructor, Sabrina Collins said, “The whole team thoroughly enjoyed the weekend, and I’m very pleased with the excellent team spirit and attitude shown by our students. The results reflect all their hard work and dedication during their pre-competition training”.

Fellow club colleague, Liam Mills (11), is hoping to emulate Eammons’ success at the forthcoming 2005 Luton Sports Awards on 23rd March.

Liam has been short-listed by the selection panel to the final three nominees in the Young Sportsman of the Year category.
