Open International Karate Seminar
May 2011 Luton UK
With
Shihan Mikio Yahara 8th Dan KWF Chief Instructor
Assisted by
Sensei Ibuki Tawara Honbu Dojo Instructor Japan
Day 1 Saturday 21 May 2011

Over 170 Shotokan Karate ka attended from all over UK and many International Countries sensei had not visited the UK for over 8 years and the attendance was outstanding.
After the opening speeches and formal bowing sensei Daniels 6th Dan KWF was asked to take the warm up then Sensei Yahara took over. Firstly sensei took every one through Kihon basics then asked every one to find a partner and continue with Ju Kumite.Every one then was asked to perform H Shodan Kata.
Sensei Yahara closely scrutinised every one looking for good form, balance, technique and Bu Do content. These main points being the basic KWF teaching and training principals.
Sensei Yahara asked different karate ka to demonstrate kihon in front of the class and then went on to correct each and every one advising the class on his every correction and commenting that they all had good karate.
Sensei firstly pointed out that KWF Karate was Bu Do karate and not sports karate with the main point being to kill with one blow in an instant and not to deliver more than one technique unless really necessary.
Sensei Yahara advised that he would teach his three principals of KWF Karate;
1/ Form with centre of gravity being the main point.
2/ Hips or Kaiten
3/ Compression – Expansion or Kusshin of the joints
Sensei made a point of explaining take off using Fumidashi in oi zuki keeping the rear leg straight and firm pushing the rear heel into the ground and having the hips in gyaku hanmi at the point of impact.Every one was taken through basics using this teaching point and then into Ju Kumite.
Sensei Yahara then explained Shomen hip and Hanmi Hip then Gyaku Hanmi Hip in basics and Ju kumite demonstrating with his assistant honbu instructor Sensei Ibuki Tawara.
Sensei Tawara demonstrated hip positions and compression prior and after executing basics with perfect timing balance and Bu Do.

Demonstrations were then performed by Sensei Sid Tadrist and Sensei Ibuki Tawara both on Kihon and Ju Ippon Kumite which gave every one a good example of how much power and speed could be developed by training the KWF way Sensei Yahara was teaching. It was also a good demonstration of KWF Bu Do Karate at its best.
Day 2 Sunday 22 May 2011

After the opening bowing Sensei Ibuki Tawara took the warm up which involved stretching and to completely relax every muscle and joint in preparation for the days training. Once again over 170 Shotokan karate ka attended some were there from the Saturday and others that had booked for the Sunday .
Sensei Yahara went over the first two points he taught on Saturday pointing out the Centre of gravity in stances while moving and stationary and Rotation of Hips and advised us that he was now going to move onto joint compression which is a way of loading the body prior to executing a technique or moving . Once again sensei demonstrated with his assistant and gave every one the opportunity to ask questions and took much time to answer them often with a smile and in a very relaxed way.Every one went through all the teaching points while executing kihon blocks and punches on the dojo floor.

After Kihon and Kumite training and practice we moved onto kata.
Kanku Sho
Sensei Ibuki Tawara took every one through Kanku Sho Kata firstly giving a breath taking demonstration of the kata then explaining different points for KWF students. Every one went over the kata several times which gave every one chance to understand the kata and any changes.Sensei Yahara explained different points of the kata and every one was able to ask questions.
It should be pointed out that this was taught the KWF way.
For the final section of the seminar Sensei Yahara completed the whole weekends training introducing his spinning uraken uchi technique.
Sensei Yahara then took over the class firstly demonstrating his unique spinning uraken uchi technique then taking the class through the whole technique breaking it down in every detail eventually every one partnering up to practise.
When Sensei Yahara demonstrated he took off with lightening speed which was barely visible to the eye which made most of the students smile with the sheer power and speed along with a very controlled technique.
The end of the day saw KWF dan grades taking their exams for gradings and Qualifications. Once again unfortunately not all were successful proving that KWF exams are amongst the toughest to undergo.
All three students from JKL Dojo Luton passed with flying colours they were,
Liam Mills - passed San Dan
Lauren Sheridan - Passed Ni Dan
Eamon Devane - Passed Ni Dan.

Conclusion
Sensei Yahara gave everything away helping every one understand how to use Kihon,Kata and Basics in Ju Kumite with devastating effect. Sensei was relaxed friendly and even humourus at times which enabled every one to train hard and take in everything step by step in a relaxed informal atmosphere.
KWF Karate is unique in its concept of retaining Bu Do in Karate in training mind and body and demonstrating this at all levels, pushing the mind and body to its limits to devastating effect using dynamics of the body. Sensei Yahara and his assistant Ibuki Tawara gave every one an excellent example of what can be achieved and how to achieve it.
Every one walked away with some thing and most commented on how good the course was and wanted to know when the next one will be ….well soon I hope.
