Dojo Rules: Dojo Kun
These dojo rules were laid down by Okinawan master of Karate, Sakugawa Shungo.
He based them on the Chinese dojo kun , which dates back to the era of Budhidharma.
Hitotsu, Jinkaku kansei ni tsutomeru koto
One to seek the perfection of character!
Hitotsu, makoto no michi o mamoru koto
One, to follow the path of truth! – be faithful
Hitotsu , doryoku no seishin o yashinau koto
One, to cultivate the spirit of effort ! - endeavour
Hitotsu, reigi o omonzuru koto
One to esteem to etiquette! – respect others
Hitotsu, kekki no yu o imashimuru koto
One to admonish brute courage! – refrain from violent behaviour
